DogFest 2010: Minnie Makes New Friends

Minnie and I went to DogFest today. The money raised goes to the Cruse Dog Park! We had such a blast!

First of all, Minnie loves other dogs. She may be a Rottweiler, but she thinks she is a small dog. No joke. She wants to play with all the toy dogs... who are like a whopping 3 pounds. It scares the bejezus out of some dog owners. I apologize.

Anyway, another thing I loved--the Dachshund Dash! Wow, weener dogs are so cute. There are several heats through the day, but the one I watched was hilarious. The little weener dog that won ran so fast, and then it pooped... I guess it had too much excitement.

We even met a bloodhound who works as an Ozarks police officer! He sniffs out trouble!

Had such a great time today! Even Jim stopped by on his way to a story to see his little Minnie in action.

A YouTube Channel is Born: Minnie the Rottweiler

This is what happens when I can't sleep. Tonight, a new YouTube channel is born: Minnietherottweiler.

And guess who it's about? Shockingly... our rottweiler, Minnie!

This is her first appearance on her new YouTube channel. It is of her howling like a hound dog... singing with her accompaniment provided by a harmonica. It was the greatest press kit snag that ever came into our newsroom.

My Other Job(s)

Well, I think I've lost my mind, but I am now in the midst of trying to find "extra" work so I can make "extra" money.

We are going to Korea in the fall, and that means I need to save about $3000 in about 12 weeks. I have some money already saved, but you know, it's just never easy to save what- you- need, when you need it!

So, my first extra job: Dog sitting.

I start Friday.

The funny thing is that I posted an ad on Craigslist. It said something like, "Young professional, looking for extra money, not weird, just need cash fast for an out-of-country wedding..." At least, that was the gist.

When I showed up at the woman's house, she already knew it was me. We have mutual friends, and I think we may have even met before. What a small world! Her dogs are really sweet, too, so I'm thankful for that.

I look at this like a fun experiment. We'll see what happens!! OH, and if you have someone who needs a dog sitter, email me!

P.S. I still hate this economy. I'm not buying any more suits until 2010.

Boy, it's been a busy, stressful and sad week

I have a lot to say, but no time to say it. But first, I want to share an experience that I had this week and am wondering if others can relate.

Jim had to put down his dog, Jasmine, on Saturday. It was one of the most difficult things I've ever done. She was such a beloved friend, and after 12 years, she had cancer in one of her bones. I'm sure she had it in other places as well, but the cancer attacked her leg and left her unable to walk.

I don't want to go into details, but being in the room with her was very hard. Thankfully, she went peacefully, but it was terribly sad. I think Jim's whole family is depressed by it--they had been taking care of her in St. Louis, and she really became a family dog!

Anyway, we all miss Jasmine, and I wanted to write about it since she was a big part of our lives...
