Another Hanguk Shikdong!!!

Springfield has another Korean Restaurant...I am so excited!! Unfortunately, I can't remember the name..."Golden - something"...it's sort of on the corner of Fort and Sunshine.

Another unfortunate thing...the location. Honestly, it's a little skanky on the outside...but you should never judge a book by its cover, right? Forget that it's right by an adult shop. Whatever.

I dragged Jim to it, and he had some reservations about it's outward appearance...however, when you walk inside, it's clean and spacious...and most importantly, the food is good.

We had bulgoki and japchae...I always get popular Korean dishes to gauge how good it is. I was very pleased. I will definitely go back. The prices were more than reasonable...and I want to go back for lunch--they have great specials, and they also have a couple of Chinese dishes for those less interested in eating Korean food. (Cashew chicken and rice $3.99)

And another good sign, there were quite a few customers inside...and Korean ones at that. That sounds silly, but my thoughts are always this: if you go to a Korean restaurant and find Korean people eating the food, it's usually worthy. Yes, that was a deep thought.

Hmmm. One thing I miss about my hometown is access to neighborhoods where you can immerse yourself in a culture.

Want Korean - got to Koreatown

I can't wait to try it out though! Do the serve bi-bim-bop?

Yes Darin! They do...I haven't tried it so I can't vouch for it...Also, Soo's has it, too and I know it's good.

My wife and I tried it, but Soo's is just better. It seems like this new place cooks things a little differently; my wife ordered her bibimbap and was missing the stone pot it's served in at Soo's.

But, we'll go back and try other things at Golden Whatchamacallit. It's always nice to have a few options if you're looking to eat out.

Soo's is still my favorite, too...kind of glad we didn't order the bibimbap now, because I like it in the stone, too...but I agree, was definitely happy to have another choice...and one closer to my house and work!

Don't forget Korea Inn on West Chestnut. It is the same (same owner, same food) as Kim's Korean Barbecue, which was a Springfield institution for many years. Koko chicken is their specialty, but they also have bibimbap and a wonderful salad bar with Korean-style radishes, bean sprouts, cucumbers, kimchi, etc. Super delicious and very low prices.

Yeah, Korea Inn has the best kalbi by far. Though it's sad they no longer serve the BBQ Burger and Mondu from their KKBBQ days.

I was at Golden Korea the other day before a Lady Bear's game. I'm pleased that Springfield has a more diverse selection of restaurants to choose from now. I was actually on my way to Soo's but stopped by the Asian market first and... there was Golden Korean. Next time I will try Soo's. (My only other attempt at Korean in Springfield was Korea House on St.Louis and... *sigh* LoL)

I know I might have higher expectations cause I'm from the west coast... Golden Korea's bulgogi was a lil too sweet/teriyaki tasting for me and the bibimbab was good, but nothing special. Still, for Springfield, it was good and I'll go back if Soo's isn't better. My nephew liked all the food I ordered and his cashew chicken. :)

I'm about to make an online review of this place on Yelp.com. You should check out Yelp and review your favorite restaurant picks so next time I'm in town, I can follow your suggestions!
