Class is finished!!

I am finally finished teaching my summer course at Missouri State. It was truly a neat experience, though I'm not sure I'd do it again.

In case you didn't know, I taught Intro to Journalism this summer, and it was much tougher than I thought it would be. Four days a week...for more than an hour...

Some students were really into journalism, and I think that's refreshing...Others told me they took this class because it was a requirement to take "cooler classes". Sweet.

Most of my students wanted to be print journalists so I didn't have much of an opportunity teaching what I know best. However, I think they'll find that they'll have to deal with video at some point in their careers.

Anyway, I had a few great writers and a lot of potential great writers. It's inspiring to say the least.

Summer school ruined my summer, but it was a must. I am glad it's over and done with.

I think a print journalist that doesn't have an understanding of the 5th estate is truly missing something. Being able to write for for both of them makes you even more valuable and gives you a lot better of a chance in the job market.

And, a requirement for cooler classes? sheesh, the wouldn't survive at Mizzou.

When you get out of school, all of your summers will suck.

Max--let me ask you this. Why do people from Mizzou hate people from KU so bad? Just curious. When I was there, we were more concerned with screwing with K-State. MU was just too far away. Plus, no one was too crazy about going to Boone County.

I've heard nothing but praises for your teaching and class structure! Kinda wish I were a college student again...and the long summers would be nice too!

Michelle, got me on that one. I was the only one in the family that didn't go to Mizzou (I have two sibs with J-school degrees from there). I always figured it was just a territory war between to strong midwestern colleges.

Well, just wondering...Max, where did you go?

I spent 2 years here at St. Louis Community College (Meramec Campus) and received my AA in Mass Comm (Radio/TV/Theatre). My bachelor degree was earned at Southeast Missouri State in Cape Girardeau.

My oldest brother was a J-school grad and now works for The Sporting News. My sister also graduated from the J-school at Mizzou and has done work in Public Relations for Places like the American Othrodonics Association and the American Association of Opthomologist.

My second oldest brother went to Mizzou but only for a year or two and never graduated.

I should note that I was the only one with a desire to get into the broadcasting.

Well, I chose KU, and I'm from Missouri. And look at me, I'm in Tiger Country again and working in broadcasting. Knowing the way I am, if I had gone to MU, I would've gotten a degree in something non-broadcasting related. That's just how I am.
